ww2dbaseYugure was commissioned into service in Mar 1935. At the onset of the Pacific War, she was a part of Destroyer Division 27 of Destroyer Squadron 1 based at Hashirajima in Hiroshima Bay, performing anti-submarine patrols in Japanese waters. In the opening months of the Pacific War, she played minor roles in the raid on Darwin in Australian, the campaign in the Dutch East Indies, the Battle of Coral Sea, and the invasion of the Aleutian Islands. She then escorted warships and transport ships between Japan, Truk in the Caroline Islands, and Rabaul in the Bismarck Islands. Starting in 1943, she escorted destroyer transports as they brought troops southward in the Solomon Islands, mostly Kolombangara Island of the New Georgia group. During those missions, she shared the credit for the sinking of destroyer USS Gwin, but she was also lost on one such mission. She was detected by American TBF Avenger aircraft operating out of Guadalcanal, which proceeded to sink her with bombs. Destroyer Kiyonami picked up about twenty survivors, but was sunk in turn soon thereafter, leaving no survivors from Yugure's crew of 228 men. Only one of Kiyonami's crew survived the sinking.

I have a Prince brand "rocky" lighter which appears unused, new in box. It is engraved with the Yugure silhouette and name on one side of the lighter & a Japanese flag on the other. Just curious if there's any information on it as well?

It's worth noting here, that the Hatsuharu class destroyers had a subclass which Yuugure belonged to along with Ariake. The two ships initially had dual rudders (Later deemed superfluous and reverted to a single rudder) and thus had a beamier hull to accommodate them. This also resulted in a shallower draft, allowing them to operate in waters deemed too shallow for the main class.

Her fate reminds me of something... (Reference to Ariake's sinking that same year trying to free Mikazuki from Cape Gloucester)
