ww2dbaseSauer 38H semi-automatic pistols were designed by the German firm J. P. Sauer & Sohn in 1938. Although initially designed for the commercial market, most of these weapons were purchased by German police organizations. A small number of them were purchased by the German Air Force, the Luftwaffe. Toward the end of the war, the design was simplified to speed up production. Production ceased when Allied troops captured the J. P. Sauer & Sohn plant in Suhl, Germany. About 200,000 examples were built between 1938 and Apr 1945.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
