ww2dbaseBattleship J, a fast battleship designed to be 277.8 meters (911 feet and 5 inches) long and displacing 53,400 tons, was laid down at the Deschimag shipyard in Bremen, Germany on 1 Sep 1939, the same day that the European War broke out. She was projected to be launched in mid 1941 and projected to be commissioned into service in late 1943. Work came to a halt on 30 Sep 1939 when other war demands were prioritized over battleship construction. She was ultimately canceled by the High Command of the German Navy in Nov 1941. At that time, only 40 tons of steel had been used, and most of the metal were recovered and redirected for other war related purposes.
