ww2dbaseJeroom Gustaaf De Clercq was born in Everbeek, East Flanders, Belgium in 1884. In 1932, he became the leader of the Frontpartij political party. Later, he was a co-founder of the nationalist political party Flemish National League (Dutch: Vlaamsch Nationaal Verbond). He collaborated with the Germans during the war as a means to unite the Dutch speaking people of the Netherlands and the Flemish region of Belgium, creating a new state of Greater Netherlands (Dutch: Groot-Nederland or Dietsland). Personnel under his influence supported the German occupiers in the identification and round-up of Jews for deportation. He passed away in 1942 and was succeeded as VNV party leader by Hendrik Elias.
