ww2dbaseDobri Bozhilov was born in Kotel, Bulgaria. He was educated at the Higher Commercial School and worked at the Bulgarian National Bank for 36 years, including serving several terms as its governor. In Nov 1938, he was appointed the Minister of Finance by Prime Minister Georgi Kyoseivanov, and remained in that post through Prime Minister Bogdan Filov's term. In 1943, upon the death of Tsar Boris III, Filov became one of the regents overseeing Bulgaria, and Bozhilov became the Prime Minister. The pro-German Bozhilov worked closely with Germany, obeying all Germany's requests with the exception of the deportation of Bulgarian Jews to concentration camps. In Jun 1944, at the face of an imminent German defeat, he resigned his government post and returned to the Bulgarian National Bank. When Bulgarian communists rose to power, Bozhilov was arrested. He was found guilty of war crimes and was executed in Feb 1945.
