Wreck of Hiei Found
An expedition had discovered the wreck of Japanese battleship Hiei, sunken in Nov 1942 off of Savo Island near Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, under 3,200 feet of water. This represented yet another major finding as the result of efforts championed by the late Paul Allen. The wreck was initially contacted by sonar in 2018, but it was not visually observed, via research ship R/V Petrel, until 31 Jan 2019.
