The 27th Infantry Division of the NYARNG did not go into combat in the Pacific until it landed on Makin in the Gilbert Islands in the Central Pacific in November of 1943. Whoever wrote the initial caption for this picture got it wrong. The 27th infantry Regiment(Wolfhounds) of the 25th Infantry Division fought in the Solomon Islands from 1942-1943.

Famous WW2 Quote
"All that silly talk about the advance of science and such leaves me cold. Give me peace and a retarded science."Thomas Dodd, late 1945

I think you meant 27th Infantry Regiment vice the 27th Infantry Division. The 27th Infantry Regiment was part of the 25th Infantry Division which served in the Northern Solomons. The 27th Infantry Division served in the Central Pacific.
