This picture is of Maj Edward Thomas and his command group (1st Bn, 2d Regiment) of the First Special Service Force upon entering Rome the morning of June 04, 1944. I interviewed Thomas for my book The Black Devil Brigade and he specifically mentioned this photo. The photograph was staged for the photographer. The official caption for this photo states it is members of the 88th Infantry Division. ~Joe Springer~ (Author of The Black Devil Brigade)
