  • Having taken Boulogne, France, Canadian 3rd Division assaulted Calais where their operation to capture the port would be complicated by the presence of 20,000 French civilians who have not been evacuated. ww2dbase [TH, AC]
Germany
  • British prisoner of war Lieutenant Mike Sinclair was killed by a German guard while attempting to escape from the Oflag IV-C camp at Colditz Castle in Germany. Japan Pacific Ocean
  • USS Whale arrived at Bashi Channel between Taiwan and Philippine Islands. ww2dbase [Whale | CPC]
Panama Canal Zone Philippines
  • Landing ship No. 127 was sunk by US aircraft off Ticao Island, Philippine Islands. ww2dbase [No. 101/103-class | CPC]
Russia
  • Slovakian Captain Frantisek Urban, tricked by the Soviets to visit Moscow in Russia, was arrested by SMERSH and was transferred to the Lubyanka Prison. ww2dbase [Lubyanka Building | CPC]
United Kingdom
  • British 501 Squadron's Tempest aircraft continued to fly all weather patrols against the V-1 flying bombs. The American Flight Officer Bud Miller shot down his 9th and final bomb but Flight Lieutenant Gordon "Snowy" Bonham DFC was killed when his Tempest aircraft crashed in bad weather at Spitfield Farm in Essex, England, United Kingdom; the New Zealander had flown against the Japanese in Singapore in 1942, and had 5 flying bombs to his credit. Four flying bombs penetrated the defences, one falling in Chersey, Surrey, one in Essex and another at Hessett, 5 miles east of Bury St Edmunds, it exploded in the middle of Mellfield Woods, damaging the farm house. ww2dbase [V-Weapons Campaign | Vergeltungswaffe 1 | HM]
