• The neutral Turkish ship, Mefküre, sailing from Romania to Istanbul, Turkey with 325 passengers, mainly Jews fleeing from Romania, Poland, and Hungary, was torpedoed, shelled and sunk by an unidentified submarine, believed to be the Soviet submarine SC-215. • Finding an unguarded track, Captain Denny of the 13/18th Hussars of the British Army led two troops of tanks to the summit of Mont Pinçon, the most formidable feature in Normandy, France. During the night his small force was reinforced by the battle-weary 4th Wiltshires (Lieutenant Colonel Luce) which on the following day then repulsed a rather half-hearted German counter-attack to regain the feature. • Polish resistance fighters of Battalion Zoska, under the command of Waclaw Micuta) captured Warsaw Concentration Camp in the ghetto of Warsaw, Poland. Though small in size, this camp was the first camp with live prisoners to be captured by a military unit fighting for the Allied war effort. • Representatives from Belgium, Canada, Free France, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States signed an agreement on the control of merchant shipping in London, England, United Kingdom. ww2dbase [London, England | CPC]

• A V-1 flying bomb brought down by a Tempest aircraft landed in Malling Road, Snodland in north Kent, England, United Kingdom; the explosion brought down 10 houses in the village and killed 12 people in them, a further 16 were badly injured; two doctors, both badly injured whose surgery facility was within one of the houses, carried on treating the casualties.
