South Africa
  • Survivors of Panamanian steam merchant ship Plaudit, sunk by German submarine U-181 11 days prior, were rescued by the South African trawler HMSAS African (T 01) which was led to the survivors by a British patrol aircraft. They were transferred to an RAF crash launch and then landed at Port Elizabeth, South Africa. ww2dbase [Port Elizabeth, Cape Province | HM]
