ww2dbaseThe Maxim Model 1910 heavy machine guns were WW1-vintage machine guns that remained in production and in service through WW2. They were heavy and unwieldy, but given the need for machine guns, these reliable weapons continued to serve in the Soviet forces. A great number of the Soviet fortifications on the Stalin Line and Molotov Line were equipped with these machine guns. Many Maxim M1910 machine guns were captured by the Germans at the onset of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, but German forces generally did not use them on the front lines due to these weapons' excessive weight. They were finally replaced in 1943 by the SG-43 Gorunov machine guns.

A number of PV-1 anti-aircraft machine guns were built by combining three air-cooled Maxim machine guns together.

After WW2, Maxim M1910 heavy machine guns were used by Communist Chinese forces in the Chinese Civil War and North Vietnamese forces during the Vietnam War.
