ww2dbaseThe 21-centimeter Mörser 18 heavy howitzers were designed and manufactured by the German armament manufacturer Krupp as a replacement for the again 21 cm Mörser 16. They were mounted on the same carriages as the ones used for the 17 cm Kanone 18 in Mörserlafette and the 15 cm Schnelladekanone C/28 in Mörserlafette weapons, which, with a dual-recoil system, were steady firing platforms. For travel, Mrs 18 heavy howitzers could each be broken up into two separate components (barrel and the remainder the weapon). Production for these weapons began in mid-1939, took a brief pause in 1942 (during which time production of the 17 cm Kanone 18 in Mörserlafette weapons took precedence), and resumed in 1943 until the end of the war. In total, 711 examples were built. Most of them were deployed to be used as field guns as intended, but a small number of them were also used as coastal defense guns.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
