ww2dbaseLeonard Arthur Puttnam, largely known by his nickname "Len", was a civilian photographer who was called up to service. He was given the rank of lieutenant and served with the War Office. Along with photographer Lieutenant Edward "Ted" Malindine, the two were sent to document the evacuation from Dunkerque, France; during that process, they were evacuated once out of the area, returned to record the evacuation of a another group of men, and then was evacuated a second time. He served the rest of the war in a similar capacity, documenting events in Britain, Ceylon, among other locations. Len Puttnam's son David Puttnam would later follow his footsteps.
