Midway Today
During WW2, the Japanese attempt to invade Midway resulted in a namesake battle that became one of the major turning points of the war. BBC environment correspondent David Shukman returned to Midway more than 60 years later to report what the island looked like in 2008. For example, today, he reported the finding of a little plastic toy that must have drifted thousands of miles from the Asian Pacific Rim or North America and noted the environmental impacts of human civilization even on an island as remote as Midway.
