Remember the Sacrifice at Normandy

Today, former American Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge laid a wreath at the American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France, where thousands rest in peace after sacrificing their lives during the Normandy landings 62 years ago on this date. The sacrifice was not in vain, for that the beachhead they gained eventually turned into a foothold that led to the defeat of Nazi Germany. Like my colleague David Lippman told me in an email today, "[t]hey deserve our respect and our remembrance. Take time out to do that today."
