“Spar” was aboard Spencer on 17 Apr 1943 when the ship sank German submarine U-175 and was officially credited with one parachute jump when she bailed out of a crippled airplane over Newfoundland in the arms of her master, Coast Guard Coxswain Harold L. Mottard.
