Famous WW2 Quote
"I have returned. By the grace of Almighty God, our forces stand again on Philippine soil."General Douglas MacArthur at Leyte, 17 Oct 1944

Note the depth charge exploding close aboard the U-117. The submarines had been conducting replenishment operations when they were surprised by US Navy Lt(jg) A.H. Sallenger in his Avenger. A combination attack by six Avengers and four Wildcats employed depth charges, Mark 24 ‘FIDO’ acoustic homing torpedoes, and strafing. U-117 was sunk and U-66 was likely damaged.
