How many stars are on Puller's epaulet?

Two. We are looking at the edge of the stars each with a point aimed right at the camera so the four white dashes we see are the tops of the points on either side of the ones pointed at the camera. It looks like he may be wearing two individual stars on each side rather than a set of joined stars.
