DAWN OF THE ATOMIC AGE:
"FAT MAN" the plutonium implosion bomb, weight of the device, was 10,300lb / 4,670kg and was detonated over Nagasaki, yield 21,000 tons of high explosive.
PRODUCTION: BOMBS ARE US
Production of nuclear devices
planned at (3) a month by August 1945, with additional (5) bombs planned by November and (7) per month by December 1946. Other production bombs were later tested at Bikini in 1946.
POLITICS BY OTHER MEANS:
Production of Fat Man Mk. III
and Little Boy Mk.I continued
weapons were improved and added to the advanced Mk.IV
weapons.
ODD MAN OUT: THE THIRD BOMB
Declassified records have brought to light a third bomb
its core was ready by August 13,1945, with (6) more bombs plus a (7th) would have been ready. With Japan's surrender in August 1945 those weapons were used in testing after World War II in the Pacific.
