My only sibling, and beloved brother, Lt. (j.g.) Arthur P.O'Sullivan was an early combat , TBF,
pilot until his plane was lost in battle.
Iniitialy, Arthur had no confined Navy aspirations, only the desire for the Navy to engage him in
combat service of their choice.
He subsequently became a Grumann "Avenger" Torpedo Bomber (TBF) pilot. He and his crew flew until declared "missing in action" late in the war.
Of him, Rear Admiral J.J. Ballentine, then Navy Commander of aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Bunker Hill, wrote of Arthur (and published in a Fordham University WW2 Military Tribute book)
"His loyalty, courage and fine character gained him the affection of all those who had the good fortune to know him personally. Arthur is the type of young man the Navy can ill afford to lose, and he will be greatly missed by all of us."
