In the 1930s the Japanese adopted the Lewis gun, as seen in gunners position, aboard a G4M1 Betty bomber. It was an air-cooled, gas operated weapon the Type 97 was of 7.7mm caliber on a flexible mount.
It was copied from the British Lewis gun and was fed by a magazine of 47 or 97 rounds the
Betty carried four 7.7mm machine guns, and
one 20mm cannon.

I'm going to take a guess here, aircraft could belong to 751st Kokutai that operated out of Rabaul, New Britian.
