At 1050hrs six enemy aircraft were sited, and started kamikaze attacks, two A6M Zero fighters attacked the USS White Plaines(CVE-66) one zero was hit,but turned and attacked the USS St.Lo(CVE-63)the second Zeke attacked the White Plains but was brought down by the ships anti-aircraft batteries it crashed astern of the Carrier, the explosion scattered debris over the deck and caused eleven minor casualties.
This was the last combat action of the carrier and she returned to the U.S. for repairs. In 1946 she was decommissioned and held in the reserve fleet for twelve years. in 1955 she was used as a training ship in 1958 she was struck from active service, and was later scrapped.
