CATS EYES:
Messerschmitt Bf-110E-1 (3C+AR) assigned to 7./NJG 4 flying from Juvincourt, France 1942, aircraft is camouflaged in overall black.
At this time aircraft carried no airborne radar pilots were directed to targets by ground-based radar, pilots at this time still had to trust their eyesight and flying skills to spot and catch enemy aircraft ay night.
Above file photograph shows that the Bf-110s are not equipped with exhaust dampers, anti-glare shields and carried the smaller under wing drop tanks.
The BF-110E was armed w/2 x 20mm MG FF cannons
w/180 rpg, 4 x 7.92mm MG 17 machine guns w/1,000 rpg and 1 x 7.92 MG 15 machine gun w/750 rounds firing aft for the gunner. Later versions of the
Bf-110 night fighters carried improved armament and airborne radar
