ACHTUNG: UNIFORM OF THE DAY
VOLKSPOLIZEI: PEOPLE'S POLICE (VoPo's)
Let's see what these troops have been issued.
Troop on the left issued a WWII K98 bolt-action rifle in 7.92 x57mm, field jacket, ski cap and load equipment "Y" strap.
Next troop has a side cap w/cockade of East Germany coat of arms w/hammer and compass w/oak leaves uniform is reminiscent of wartime Wehrmacht uniform, can't identify rank on shoulder boards, w/collar taps, belt buckle also has East German coat of arms same as his side cap.
Center troop issued the M56 steel helmet, rucksack, belt buckle, weapon could be an SKS
Type 56 semi-auto rifle w/folding bayonet in 7.62 x 39mm that's my guess.
Last troop issued same equipment as one on left
"Y" strap load equipment WWII canteen, mess kit and rolled poncho. Some of these Grenztruppen
or border guards would be issued pistols
