Landing on a Carrier is a controlled crash! SBD Dauntless on final approach with flaps
down,landing gear and tail hook down ready to
catch one of the landing wires.
Douglas would built 6,000 SBD's its last
major battle was the Battle of the Philippine
Philippine Sea in June 1944.
Early in the Pacific War, the Navy hit back
at the Japanese with hit and run raids.
This was the response to the American Public
asking Where is our Navy why doesn't it fight
With the loss of Battleships at Pearl, the
Navy had to ues its remaining ships in fast
hit and run raids.
It wasn't until Guadalcanal that the Japanese
were defeated on land, and both sides threw
men, equipment and supplies into the battle
