TBD-1 Devastators of VT-6 aboard Enterprisereadied for launch on June 4, 1942.Of the 41 aircraft launched, only 6 returnedThe Americans ended up sinking four Japanesecarriers. Ensign George Gay was the only VT-8 survivorof the 30 men who flew into battle, and all15 planes were destroyed, without scoring a hit.Ensign Gay was rescued the next day, June 5threcovered from his injuries at Pearl Harbor.
