U-664 was attacked on the surface in a coordinated attack by two TBF-1 Avenger aircraft and one F4F-4 Wildcat fighter with Composite Squadron VC-1 flying from Card. This photo was taken after the attack had been broken off when the submarine was sinking and the crew was actively taking to inflatable rafts.
