ww2dbaseThe Z.1007 Alcione three-engined medium bombers entered production in 1938 and saw WW2 action in Britain, Greece, and in the Mediterranean Sea. Poor performance and inadequate defensive armament made them extremely vulnerable to hostile interceptors. To remedy the performance problem, aircraft of the "ter" variant which began production in 1943 were equipped with slightly more powerful engines, but the productions numbers were too few to make any difference. During the course of the war, 560 were built. After the Italian surrender, these bombers continued to serve with both Allied and Axis factions.
