ww2dbaseThe 10.5 cm Kanone 17 field guns were designed by Krupp in 1916 with the main goal of extending the range of the existing 10.5 cm Kanone 14 field guns. The resulting design featured guns so heavy that the barrels had to be detached from the rest of the guns in order to be transported efficiently, but it was decided to adopt this design regardless. Production lasted between 1917 and 1918 with 192 guns built. After WW1, Germany was forbidden to possess these large field guns, thus most of them were scrapped or sold to Sweden and Romania, although a small number were hidden. Some of the hidden 10.5 cm K 17 guns were brought back to service as stationary coastal defense guns by the WW2-era German Army.
