ww2dbaseThe Cruiser Mk VII (A24) Cavalier tanks were the first in a series of designs meant to replace the aging Crusader cruiser tanks. An order was placed before trials had taken place, and problems soon surfaced from the underpowered Liberty engines. Instead of addressing this issue directly, Cavalier tanks were replaced by the later Mk VIII (A27) Centaur/Cromwell tanks. The examples built were assigned to training or auxiliary units, such as the OP variant that fielded dummy guns and extra radios in place of the primary weaponry, and the ARV variant that performed as armored recovery vehicles.
