Ian V. Hogg's The Encyclopedia of Infantry Weapons of World War II was first printed in 1977. Picking this book up at the local library over 30 years later, I still found it to contain a wealth of information even though a great many more books on weapons had been published since. The author gave about half a page to each weapon, which only allowed him to scratch the surface on each, but it was enough to satisfy me. All of the weapons had accompanying photographs, adding excellent visual to the text. While the quick guide to Japanese writing found on page 32 was very interesting trivia, those into the technical side of things would probably enjoy the 10-page listing of small arms ammunition and the inclusion of less discussed weapons such as Italian grenades. I considered this title to be a wonderful reference book, and would be on the look out for a copy at used book stores.
