ww2dbaseAndré Marquis was the Vichy French Navy admiral in charge of the naval base at Toulon, France when the Germans made the attempt to capture the French fleet at that port city. He was captured at Fort Lamalgue during the German attempt, but his capture did not prevent the French from scuttling the fleet. After the war, he was tried for treason and his failure to save the fleet.
