ww2dbaseWilhelm Fritz von Roettig, who held the rank of SS-Brigade Brigadeführer and Generalmajor der Ordnungspolizei when he was killed during the invasion of Poland in 1939, became the first general to be killed in action in the European War when his staff car was ambushed by Polish troops. A street in Prague, occupied Czechoslovakia was named in his honor until 1945.
