ww2dbaseCommander Goro Matsura was a 17-year veteran of the Japanese Navy with 1,800 hours in the air as a pilot. He served as a staff officer with the Third Fleet in the Philippines and the South Pacific in the first year of the Pacific War, then from Dec 1942 to May 1943 he attended the Naval War College. After completion of his courses, he served as a staff officer to various naval aviation units before heading back to Tokyo in Sep 1944 to serve with the Navy General Headquarters and the Combined Fleet. After the war, he was interrogated by Captain Steadman Teller of the United States Navy in Tokyo on 20 Oct 1945.
