Tuskegee Airman Lawrence Dickson's remains identified

30 Nov 2018

Captain Lawrence Dickson was an African-American "Tuskegee" pilot of 100th Fighter Squadron of USAAF 332nd Fighter Group during the war. On 23 Dec 1944, while flying a P-51 Mustang fighter, he experienced an engine failure and crashed near the Italo-Austrian border. In 2012, a crash site was discovered, and recovery efforts began in 2017. DNA samples taken from surviving bone fragments matched the samples taken from Dickson's daughter Marla Andrews and another relative, announced the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. Dickson will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, United States on 22 Mar 2019.
