Enola Gay, was a Martin built B-29-45-MO
serial number 44-86292.
She was one of fifteen B-29s with Silverplate
modifications made to carry the Atomic bomb.
On May 9,1945 while 44-86292 was still on the
assembly line, Colonel Paul W. Tibbets Jr.
selected the bomber to be the one he would pilot for the Atomic bomb mission.
Enola Gay: number 82 was assigned to the
393rd Bombardment Group, 509th Composite
Squadron.

The radome under the fuselage between the two bomb bays could be one of two different radar sets.
The AN/APQ-13 Radar Bombing/Navigational Aid or the later AN/APQ-7 Eagle Bombing-Through Overcast Radar Unit.
