My uncle's father (Robert Groffy) served with the 44th Armored Infantry and was wounded. Trying to get any information on getting his Purple Heart but it's not working too well. If anybody knows of any way to find that out, I'd be interested.

My dad was in the 44th AID. All that I know
about the time my dad was in the Army, (He died
when I was ten) was that he was in Germany and
his barracks was bombed, he was injured, medals
that he had were a purple heart and a ribbon
with a silver colored star hanging from it.
I know he was honorably discharged. But I need some info because my mom is in need of survivors benefits and they require facts like discharge papers etc... How does one get these facts that haven't been needed since you were 10y.o. and receiving survivor benefits yourself. Anyway my dads name was Arthur Walker, pfc, 44th Armored Infantry Division, prior to 1945.
