Early airborne radar units were big andheavy with outside antennas the created drag. They were improved and became smaller andlighter. Improved models emerged that usedsmall parabolic dish designs.

Photo of the P-61's SCR-720 radar it had arange of 5 miles/8Km also had an (IFF link)Identify Friend or Foe. Radar operator located the target and gaveintercept instructions to the pilot, once within range, the pilot located the targetand fired using the 20mm cannons located in the belly or the top turret mounted 50 cal. machine guns or 20mm cannons.Radar operator could also operate top turret Date of photo unknown
