These photos taken through periscopes are for some reason some of the most fascinating ones to me. I hadn't seen this one before; good to see that even now this website is still being updated with new content.

The Silversides patrol report noted that this ship would depart Truk every few days but return shortly thereafter each time without going anywhere. It was also noted that when this ship exited the lagoon and turned one way, a few hours later a military convoy would leave the lagoon and turning the other way. The suspicion was that the hospital ship was being used to draw submarines away from the lagoon’s channel before a convoy’s departure which, if proven, would be a violation of the Hague Accords of 1907 (commonly but mistakenly called the Geneva Convention).
