Left to right are: Lieutenant-General Sir Richard O’Connor, commanding VIII Corps; British Prime Minister Winston Churchill; Field Marshal Jan Smuts; General Bernard Montgomery; Field Marshal Sir Alan Brooke, Chief of the Imperial General Staff. Note O’Connor’s field harness and gas mask bag attached.
