The DM is USS Lindsey, DM-32 originally designated as DD-771, a Sumner class DD, but completed as a DM in 1944.
The 2 ships were exercising off San Clemente Island during North Carolina's post repair trials and training after a major overhaul at Puget Sound July 31-October 1 1944. Lindsey had bust been commissioned August 20 and so was in shakedown.
do not confuse with USS Lindsay (note letter a) DE-519
