READY TO SORTIE:
Aircraft of the 343rd Kokutai Shiden Kai note number that's painted on hinomaru, this practice of painting the aircraft's number, was a late war method of visual identification in the IJNAF that were training or working to full operational status.
FAMOUS PHOTOGRAPH:
Some of the Photos were taken at Matsuyama during February and March 1945 when the 343rd was still training. Above photo was taken on April 10, 1945
by Kanno's crew chief.
Aircraft were being transferred to Kanoya on the island of Kyushu to take part in the Okinawa campaign.
After units were made operational, to the combat area, the numbers were removed, however unit tail markings and numbers added to the identity of the unit.
