D3A WANNABEE:
Aircraft started out as a Vultee-Valiant BT-13
basic trainer, this type of aircraft trained tens of thousands of pilots during WWII.
MOVIE STAR:
Nine were modified to replicate the Japanese Navy Aichi Type 99, D3A (Val) Dive Bomber for the 1970 film Tora, Tora, Tora. Along with other modified Vultee BT-13s and North American T-6 Texan aircraft to replicate the Japanese Navy B5N(Kate Torpedo Bomber)and the Mitsubishi A6M Zero for the movie.
MOVIE OF INTEREST:
Tora, Tora, Tora this 1970 movie dramatized the events leading up to the December 7,1941 attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese Naval Forces. The film
explored both the American and Japanese views.
