LAST OF THE LINE:

XP40Q this was Curtiss last attempt to produce a high-performance version of the P-40. Powered by 1 x Allison V-1710 liquid-cooled engine driving a four bladed propeller it reached a speed of 425mph. No follow up orders and was not put into production. The USAAF had the P-38, P-47 and P-51 already in the fight.

XP-40Q number 42-45722 was rebuilt from a P-40K the fuselage was cleaned up, bubble canopy and wing tips squared off aircraft was built in 1944.

At wars end Number 722 was declared surplus and ended its days flying in post-war civilian air races being flown by Skip Zeigler.
