Upon further review, I completely concur that the Mustang is from the 355th Fighter Group. Thank you for the correction. What’s more, the white spinner and plain tail make this the 358th Fighter Squadron within the 355th Fighter Group. The caption has been updated to reflect this correction.

Thank you for your reply. According to my research, the Mustang is P-51B 42-106950 coded WR-P of the 355th Fighter Group's 354th Fighter Squadron named 'The Iowa Beaut'. This aircraft featured in a number of publicity photographs including several in colour. I featured it in my recent book on the Mustang for SAM Publications in the UK.

Again, I think you are right. I was a bit hasty in assessing the coloring of the planes and blurred the early plain tails with the later color-coded rudders. The green upper to the after fuselage is distinctive and is consistent with The Iowa Beaut. I defer to your wisdom on the question and the caption has (again) been corrected.
