CAPTURED ENEMY EQUIPMENT:
One of a series of photographs of a Sd.Kfz. 234/3
taken at the US Army Troop School Fort Hood,Texas
Vehicle is armed w/1 x 75mm PAK 40 L/24 gun w/50
rounds of ammo, weapon was mounted in a open type superstructure, secondary weapon 1 x 7.92mm MG 34 or MG 42 machine gun w/1,950 rounds.
Eighty-nine (89) vehicles were built before wars end. Gun had limited traverse to twelve (12) degrees to either side. The down side crew was exposed to small arms fire, over head shell bursts and shrapnel.
SECONDS COUNT: FRONT AND REAR DRIVING POSITIONS
One instating feature about the Sd.Kfz 234 series
armored cars, is its forward and rear driving positions. Ambush enemy tanks the crew could get the first round off, and get out of a tight spot fast without having to backup stop to shift gears from reverse to forward gear, and drive away in the heat of battle, seconds count.

FIRST PRODUCTION MODEL: Sd.Kfz 234/1
WW2DB hasn't on file a photo of the Sd.Kfz234/1
vehicle it had the same automotive chassis, hull and suspension as later versions. Sd.Kfz 234/1 was armed w/1 x 20mm KwK 38 L/55 cannon w/250 rounds, secondary armament 1 x 7.92mm MG 34 or MG 42 machine gun w/2400 rounds.
Both weapons were mounted in an open top turret,
crew protection was an anti-hand grenade screen mounted over the turret each half could be opened to the left and to the right. The 234/1 was used for reconnaissance and infantry support and couldn't duke it out with enemy armor (tanks) but had enough firepower for self protection, could engage light skinned vehicles and attack enemy infantry. 200 vehicles were built before wars end.
