IMPROVING THE BREED:
P-51B-1NA s/n 43-12102 aircraft was pulled off production line and modified with all new forward windscreen, 360 degrees bubble canopy and cut down aft fuselage. Dorsal fin was later added to production P-51 Mustangs. A total of 8,000 P-51D were built
This Mustang 43-12102 was used for tests and other factory modifications. North American also modified two other Mustangs P-51B-10-NA s/n 43-106539 and s/n 43-106540 also used for tests. Production P-51Ds were armed w/6 x .50 Cal. machine guns w/1880 rounds of ammo.
