Famous WW2 Quote
"I have returned. By the grace of Almighty God, our forces stand again on Philippine soil."General Douglas MacArthur at Leyte, 17 Oct 1944

JG/27's aircraft servicing was done in the
open. Ground crews made makeshift shelters
to carry out daily maintenance, winds would blow dust everywhere.
The Bf 109E had sand filters installed over
the engine air intake and was vital to keep the fine and abrasive grains of sand from
being ingested during ground taxying and
takeoff. For the pilots and ground crews, it was no better the heat, flies and sand got
into everything.
