ARE THESE M-4 SHERMANS WAITING FOR THE FUEL TRUCKS TO CATCH UP. LOOKS LIKE A TARP HAS BEEN PLACED OVER THE .50 CALIBER MACHINE GUN.
SHERMANS ON THE FLANKS ARE ARMED WITH THE 75MM GUN, THEY CARRIED 90 ROUNDS OF 75MM AMMO, 300 ROUNDS OF .50 AMMO AND 4740 ROUNDS OF .30 CALIBER AMMO.
THE M-4A3 SHERMAN IN THE CENTER IS ARMED WITH THE 76MM GUN, AND CARRIED ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF AMMO, BUT THAT'S FOR TO&E I'M SURE IN THE FIELD CREWS CARRIED AS MUCH AMMO AS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE THOSE .30 AND .50 CALIBER MACHINE GUNS EAT A LOT OF LEAD!.
THE M-4A3 CARRIED THE 76MM GUN AND WAS DESIGNED TO TAKE ON THE PANTHERS AND TIGERS,
THE BRITS CALLED THEIR VERSION THE "FIREFLY"
THE M-4A3 ALSO HAD AN IMPROVED SUSPENSION,
UPGRADED WIDETRACK W/ HORIZONTAL VOLUTE SPRING SUSPENSION.
THIS VERSION WAS USED UNTIL RETIRED IN 1955 OTHER OLDER MODELS WERE UPGRADED.
OTHER SHERMAN'S CONTINUE TO SERVE WITH U.S. ALLIES AND OTHER FOREIGN NATIONS.
